Sunday morning @Toluca, MX
The first photo I ever took was a church close to my middle school in my born city Toluca, Mexico
I was part of the photography class in my first year in middle school
The teacher gave us the instructions to build our first camera obscura
A cylindrical container for oatmeal was the body of the camera
Then, I cover the hole cylinder with black paper
The request was only inside of the container
But I did outside as well, just in case
I cut a small square of almost 2in of length from a can of Coca-Cola
With a hot needle, I made a small hole in the center of the squared plate
I cut a square of 1in of length in the cover of the oatmeal container
To make the trick, I put some tape to center my metal square in the cover of the container
Finally, the teacher gave us some photograph paper and some formulas to calculate our exposure
In the darkroom, I placed my paper in the back of my new camera
Cover my camera with the cover of the container and then, I covered the hole of the plate with my finger
Went out and place my camera in a corner fixed with my school sweater
I removed my finger and wait until I got my exposition done according to my calculations
Then, I went back to the darkroom and I made a line
The teacher was the only one managing the chemical compositions
It was a black and white image
So, no much chemical substances were needed
I washed my photo with water and let it rest for a day
The next day, A beautiful photo of one of the churches of my home town, El Ranchito
Well, I was back and alone for a weekend in Toluca
So, I dedicated my Sunday for the Church
But fir the church hunting
I took a series of photos and they are part of my limited edition zine: “Sunday Morning in Toluca”
